Qualified to serve

‘How much more, then, will the blood of Christ … cleanse our consciences … so that we may serve the living God!’ Hebrews 9.14

What stops you serving God? It might be that you sense something in your past is keeping you from being used by God and you feel disqualified because of what you have done. This verse cuts right to the heart of the matter. The writer to the Hebrews says that the very act of Jesus dying for you takes away your sin and also has the power to cleanse your conscience, so you can be utterly free to serve God.

We all know the ‘facts’ of the cross and are probably aware of having been forgiven. However, our consciences tell us a different story because we may not actually feel forgiven. If this is the case, you need to come back to the truth proclaimed in this verse, that you have been washed clean and are free to serve God. You may know you are forgiven, but maybe you need to ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse your conscience so you can live in the truth
of the cross.

The more the light of this truth touches you, the more you can bask in it and start to believe you can do good to other people without listening to your inner voice asking, “Just what do you think you are doing?” You can pray without fearing that your prayers are a joke! There is nothing that disqualifies you; because of Jesus, you are totally qualified to serve God.
