“Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn; look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth.” Isaiah 51. 1-2
In this chapter, God commands his people to listen to him, and then the first thing he tells them to do is to remember where they came from; the foundation of their faith.
We are all unique – God made each of us different and in that we should rejoice and not seek to be like anyone else – but we are not an exception. We may be unique but God has a consistency about the way he treats all his people. In other words, you are not going to be the only person God decides not to love – he loves us all the same!
To be a spiritual descendent of Abraham means that the way in which God cared and provided for Abraham is also the care and provision that we will enjoy. Abraham’s God is our God. This means that the promises Abraham found to be true are promises that still stand for us today and the intimacy that Abraham found with God is an intimacy we can find as well.
Take a moment to recognise that although you are unique, you are not an exception to the love God has for the world.
