Look to the Light

“…because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death…” Luke 1.78-79

The wonderful hope to which these verses allude is that no matter how dark the circumstances in which people find themselves, God’s help will come like the rising sun “to shine on those living in darkness”.  What an incredible message of hope!

The first reason for rejoicing is because there is no darkness capable of extinguishing light, and secondly because it is the shining light that pierces the darkness rather than the people living in darkness creating the light for themselves.  The third cause for hope is that the reason for this great transformation is the tender mercy of God and not our own goodness or holiness.

Let’s put all this together!  No matter who you are, what you have done or what the particular gloom you are experiencing looks like, God in his incredible love and mercy has seen you and has sent Jesus for you.  The one thing you have to do is to look up to the light.  This can be as simple as saying the name ‘Jesus’ in the knowledge that he is there, or seeing yourself as standing in his light.  His shining light is for you.
