‘And he became more and more powerful, because the LORD God Almighty was with him.’ 2 Samuel 5.10
This description of the young King David is a clear snapshot of the source of his power and success – God was with him. Such a description may leave you hungry for more of God yourself, and just think about what good you could achieve if those words applied to you. Yet what if they do apply to you already?
Your vision of yourself may not be very accurate! You may tend to regard yourself as simply little old you getting through life as best you can – but what does God see when he looks at you? It is likely that he sees what you do not, namely that you are a temple of the Holy Spirit – a physical dwelling place of his presence (1 Corinthians 6.19). If this is true, then what was true of David is equally true of you – that the Lord God Almighty is with you.
Perhaps what made the difference for David was that he knew and believed this. Some of his psalms illustrate his knowledge of the relationship he enjoyed with God. It is not asking God to be with you that should dominate your prayers, but recognising that he is actually with you all the time.
If God is in you through his Holy Spirit, then there is nowhere you can go where the presence of God is not there already. What a thought to bear in mind today!
