Dwelling on the love of God

‘Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.’ Psalm 90.14

It is tempting to wonder whether the love of God is somehow a bit different from the love that we may feel towards other people.  This verse tells us that he wants us to be satisfied by his love.

One way to find this satisfaction is to dwell on his love a little more than we often do.  We are well used to singing about his love, hearing of his love, even speaking about his love, but so often we don’t take time to dwell on it.

A practical way in which you can do this is to let these simple words roll around your mind, ‘Abba, Father’.  He wants you to know him in the same way that a much-loved young child would come to their father in trust.  Try to think about the very best father-child relationship you can; it is this relationship that God wants with you – and even better.  Taking time to dwell on this is the first step towards finding and being satisfied by his love for you.
