‘The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.’ 2 Samuel 6.11
The ark of the Lord represented God himself; his very presence was seen to dwell in it. To treat it with disrespect was to incur God’s wrath and to treat it with honour was to open the door to God’s blessings. When the ark was present, it was as if God himself was present.
What a difference it would make if we could regard ourselves as living arks of God. Jesus has redeemed every one of us, and we are each a temple of the Holy Spirit. The Father and the Son have come and made their home within us. Whether or not you feel this doesn’t matter because it is the truth revealed in the Bible.
Take a moment to run through the day ahead of you in your mind, rather like a film. Where are you going, who will you be seeing and what will you be doing? As you think through each of these scenarios, see yourself as a living ark or temple in which the presence of God dwells. As your thoughts linger on each of your plans in turn, see yourself as literally shining with God’s presence. Now enjoy the day ahead and let the presence that lives in you shine out.
