‘For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ Ephesians 2.10
As we look forward to the day ahead of us, we often naturally ask God to bless it in order that somehow things might go well for us. Another way of asking for his blessing is to catch the truth of this verse that today (and every day) we have been created to do the things that the Father has prepared in advance for us to do. However we think the day ahead looks, whatever is or is not in the diary, God has already gone before us to prepare work for us to do.
At this point it is tempting to panic! What if we miss the things he has prepared? Should we spend time praying to discover what these good works are? However, God is presumably not going to all the trouble of preparing things for us if there is a strong likelihood that we are going to miss them! Our calling is to enjoy the day ahead of us, to do whatever we have planned to do, and in every situation we find ourselves, seek to do good and encourage others.
If this is our attitude about the hours ahead of us, it will be an amazing opportunity for God to do all sorts of things, seen and unseen by us. He is perfectly able to prompt us with any specific nudges that are needed, so let’s live today in the knowledge that we are doing God’s work
