“Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it?” say, “The Lord needs it.”” Luke 19.30-31
Jesus appeared to know all about this young and untried donkey that was quietly tethered up out of sight. What’s more, Jesus specifically selected it, presumably from amongst a number of other donkeys that he could have used, with the words: “The Lord needs it.” This donkey had never been ridden before so had no proven track record of being particularly suited for carrying people, yet Jesus chose it.
God needs us as well. Ephesians 1.4 speaks about us being chosen before the foundation of the world; chosen before we could do anything to prove ourselves useful to him – chosen just because he chose us!
God needs you to carry Jesus today. This may not involve doing anything you might deem significant, but wherever you go and whatever you do, keep in mind this sense that Jesus is with you.
All the donkey had to do was to remember that he carried Jesus upon his back. To begin with, perhaps all you have to do is to remember that Jesus is with you, and this memory alone may be sufficient to encourage you to speak words of encouragement to the people you pass, do something helpful when you have the opportunity, or even pray for people as they share their concerns with you.
