‘How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you’ Psalm 31.19
We often have a tendency to think of God as somehow being a bit stingy; of carefully counting out his blessings to us, being careful that he doesn’t go over our allotted quota. Yet this verse speaks of the abundant generosity of God, and creates the impression that God somehow stores up the good things he has for us because there is so much that it needs to be stored! There is nothing stingy or mean about this. In fact, it points to the lavish nature of God’s goodness to us.
So if there are abundant good things waiting for you, how do you open the door to receive them? The key is to open your mind to believe that they are really there for you. If your basic assumption is that God doesn’t think much of you, then your expectation of his goodness is low; but if you choose to believe that he has abundant good things he longs to give you, then you will begin to look for them and to see something of his generous hand open to you.
Let this verse be a declaration from you to God: how abundant are the good things that you have stored up for me!
