‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children’ Ephesians 4.32 – 5.1
Following God’s example sounds like a real challenge! How can we possibly be like him? This verse provides a clue: it is about being kind, compassionate and forgiving.
Before you get into the realm of thinking that this sounds like even more that you have to remember, and perhaps fail at, it is worth spending a moment reflecting that these qualities are how God chooses to behave towards you. At every step of this day, God chooses to be kind, compassionate and forgiving to you.
So if you are called to follow God’s example in your dealings with others, then you need to recognise these lovely qualities so that you are in a better position to exhibit them as you interact with the people you will meet today. They are not simply actions for you to try to remember, but they are meant to flow naturally from your heart, in the same way as they come pouring out of God’s heart.
Today, God plans to be kind to you; he wants to show you compassion and his heart’s desire is to forgive you. Receive these beautiful truths and let them change your heart.
