The power is within

bearyourname‘His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life’ 2 Peter 1.3

Begin by making a very subtle change to this verse – something that should get your attention!  Instead of ‘us’ insert ‘me’, so that now it reads: His divine power has given me everything I need for a godly life.

Over the next week, we are going to look at ways in which we can strengthen our spiritual lives, because the stronger we are, the less likely we will trip up.  Set-backs are not just about moral failures, but also about those moments when you find yourself disappointed by your own reactions to events or people, or when you catch yourself thinking far less of yourself than God thinks of you.

This inner strengthening begins with you catching the truth that God has already put his power within you – it is there already.  All you have to do is to pause and draw upon it.  It comes back to a verse that I have often used, a verse that is so helpful for us to ponder: ‘I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.’ (Jeremiah 15.16).  In other words, the very presence of God is dwelling within you. Take a few minutes to mull over this verse right now, perhaps repeating it to yourself and letting the truth it reveals come back to your mind when you need it throughout the day.
