God fully understands

‘He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.’ Psalm 147.3-5

At first glance these appear to be random verses strung together!  What has healing the broken-hearted got to do with calling the stars by name?  Actually there is a lovely link.

If you feel broken-hearted or wounded, your wound may not be one that people can see.  On the outside you may appear as usual, but inside you might be desperately aware of the pain.  When the psalmist says that God sees and recognises every star, he is suggesting that whereas we might just see a mass of stars that mostly look alike, God sees each one individually.  In this same way God sees each of us, and every part of us, including our wounds and hurts that may well be invisible to others.  Such is his power and understanding.

One step on the road to finding healing is to recognise that God totally understands.  Knowing this will encourage you to trust him with the deepest things in your life.  If there are parts of you that feel wounded or hurt, bring them to God in the full assurance that he understands and is ‘mighty in power’.
