‘For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.’ 2 Chronicles 16.9
This verse has the potential to discourage us! Are we really fully committed to God? If not, does this mean he won’t strengthen us? However, the actual sense of the Hebrew is more about those who are ‘complete’ in him and this is probably more true of us than we might think.
Often we think of ourselves as weak and not doing too well in our Christian lives, but the flip side of this is that we are only too aware of our desperate need of God, and know that we can only really be complete in him. If this is the case then it is not just the fully committed that he is looking for, but also those of us who know our need of him.
The other wonderful truth expressed in this verse is that God is actively looking for us; he is searching for those who know their need of him. As you recognise this need and admit that you can only really be complete in him, begin to believe in the pleasure he takes in you.
