“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20.21
Yesterday we looked at the fact that Jesus is God’s gift to us, and there is another challenging strand to this concept.
After his resurrection Jesus told his disciples: “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” In other words, just as Jesus was sent by God, so we are sent by Jesus. This means that just as Jesus was God’s gift to those to whom he was sent, so we are Jesus’ gift to those with whom we interact.
We can often be wary in the company of others, wondering what they are thinking of us or comparing ourselves to them. What a difference it would make to us if we could see ourselves as a gift from God to those we meet. So how can we learn to do this? Perhaps the simplest way is to ask people how they are and actually listen to what they say! We may not have to say or do much more, but we are there for them. We may be the only person that day who actually takes an interest and listens to them. Be a gift to others!
