The enormity of God over all of our life

“Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” 1 Chronicles 29.11

When something looms over us, or if we are facing a situation with some anxiety, it is natural to pray.  Too often our prayer takes the form of a desperate plea for God’s help or for rescue from a certain situation.  At times like this, our prayers can lack relationship and worship.

Relationship matters because it brings us back to the person of God to whom we pray, rather than making a desperate plea to someone out there somewhere.  Worship matters because it puts our situations into perspective; it brings home the enormity of who God is compared to the size of our difficulty or anxiety.

This verse is an inspiring passage to memorise.  It reminds us of just who it is that we come to in prayer and the power that flows from him.  Take a moment to read it again, memorise it and begin all your times of prayer today with these words.  See what difference it makes.
