‘You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.’ Psalm 139.1
If someone were to say they have searched you and know you – you might begin to panic! Exactly how much do they know about you, what about all those things you would rather folk not know about – those things you would love to be hidden forever?
The sense from this psalm is that God does indeed know everything about you – absolutely everything. He has seen the whole of your life from your very conception until this present day. So how amazing that this psalm lacks any sort of judgment or condemnation. It simply states things the way they are: God sees everything about you and he loves you. He is not horrified by what he sees but remains utterly committed to you.
The invitation is to have confidence in this and to approach Jesus in the knowledge that you are known through and through and are utterly loved. Since he sees everything, you have nothing to hide, and since he loves you unfailingly, you have nothing to fear. How does this make you feel? So turn to him now – what do you want to say to him?
