“Do you understand what I have done for you?” John 13.12
Jesus asked his disciples this question after he had washed their feet. He was asking them to reflect on what he had done and apply the lessons to their lives. He might well ask us the same question in these days after Christmas. Do you really understand what he has done for you? It is all too easy to get caught up in the ‘sweetness’ of the story – mangers, angels, shepherds and stars – but lose the raw impact that God himself has come for his people, including you.
Take a moment to reflect on some of these questions.
- What difference does it make to you that God came to this earth in human form, rather than staying in heaven?
- How does this event change your view of God?
- What difference does it make to you that Jesus was born in the circumstances we read about, rather than appearing in a palace?
It is not a matter of right or wrong answers, but about reflecting on the wonder of God and making his actions personal for you.
