‘Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.’ Jude 2
Happy Christmas! The way in which Jude begins his letter is likely to be a standard greeting, but actually these words sum up everything that Christmas is about; the mercy, peace and love of God towards us in abundance.
Just a touch of God’s love would be wonderful and life transforming! A small dose of God’s mercy is probably all we deserve and even a few moments of peace would be a welcome break for many people. Yet when Jesus came to this world he brought far more than a touch of God’s love, mercy and peace – instead he gave us the entirety of God’s love, mercy and peace in human form. This is God’s gift to the world – his gift to us.
As you mull over something of the truth of Christmas today, amongst all the other things that make this a special time, ponder something of the abundance of God’s gift towards you. In Jesus he gave you everything you need, and could ever need, as far as the mercy, peace and love of God are concerned.
Ponder it, be open to it and worship him for it.
