‘David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.’ 1 Chronicles 28.20
Solomon no doubt felt somewhat daunted by the task ahead of him – following in David’s footsteps. To encourage him, David spoke these powerful words which are also a great encouragement to us. He stressed that his God would also be with Solomon. This was the God who had seen him through all the episodes of his life, including guiding him as he fought Goliath, and offering him forgiveness after the episode with Bathsheba and Uriah.
The truth is that this same God is also with each of us, but Jesus put it in an even more amazing way. In John 20.17, he told Mary Magdalene that he was about to go to “my Father and your Father, to my God and your God”. In other words, it is not just the God of David who is with us, but the God and Father of our Lord Jesus.
This is why you need not be afraid or discouraged, because you are not alone. The God and Father of Jesus is with you. As you think through the day ahead, keep this firmly in mind.
