‘But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation’ Colossians 1.22
This verse expresses so clearly the heart of God and his vision for us. It also reveals the enormous gap that so often exists between how God sees us and how we see
You may regard yourself as weak, struggling and often failing, but this verse says that as far as God is concerned, you are far from this; you are without blemish and free from accusation. This is not because God wears special spectacles so that he cannot see certain things, but that the physical death of Jesus took your sin from you so that it is simply not there anymore. So if the sin is not there, how can you be accused of it?
This is so important to grasp as we begin to pray, or as we come to God for anything, because when God looks at us he does not see what we think he sees. We assume he is thinking that we must have some nerve to come to him considering our past record, whereas the truth is that he is thrilled when we turn to him. He takes such pleasure in us because in his eyes, thanks to what Jesus has done, there is nothing to accuse us.
