What God smells

‘For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ’ 2 Corinthians 2.15

Smell is a very evocative sense, taking us right back to a distant memory or even alerting us to danger regardless of whether any risk is visible.  This verse says that God smells us!  What’s more, we smell pleasing to him because we give off the scent of Jesus.

You might have a problem with this!  Don’t you sometimes smell a bit rotten to God?  The Bible says that God remembers your sins no more (Hebrews 8.12) – when Jesus took them away he utterly removed the smell of them from you.  So when God draws close and breathes the air around you, he simply smells the beautiful aroma of Jesus.

As you draw close to God now, focus on this incredible truth: he does not see your sins, but looks at you with wonder and joy as he catches the scent of Jesus.
