‘But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.’ 2 Corinthians 2.14
Perhaps the most surprising word in this extraordinary verse is the word ‘everywhere’. We have no problem believing that some people carry the aroma of Jesus, those who seem to be ‘model’ Christians and who always make us feel better. They certainly carry the aroma of Christ with them. However, Paul was not just talking about ‘other Christians’; he was talking about all Christians – and this means that he was talking about us.
Since Jesus is in us, it follows that wherever we go we carry something of him with us. This is a fundamental truth of our faith. We do not pick and choose when to carry Jesus and when not to bother – he is with us all the time, so everywhere we go he goes too.
Becoming conscious of this can make all the difference. Imagine if there were times when you felt the presence of God coursing through your veins, or something like a hum of electricity buzzing through you. At these moments it would be natural to ponder what you might bring to the situations in which you find yourself. Yet the truth is that whether or not you feel the ‘hum’, you still carry Jesus with you everywhere.
Take a moment to think about the situations facing you today, and decide what touches of Jesus you will bring to them.
