‘Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort’ 2 Corinthians 1.3
What an amazing description! It really does set out what can be expected of the God you are approaching right now; the one who is standing there waiting for you, whether or not you turn to him.
Take a few minutes to grasp this description of God. These words – ‘Father of compassion and the God of all comfort’ – are enough to dispel any doubts you might have about whether God is really there for you. Throughout the day, try repeating them as a prayer when you need help. Take them seriously as a description of what God longs to bring to you, no matter what you face.
Sometimes you might feel anxious about drawing close to God, but these words are an encouragement to you to invite him to draw near and bring to you what is actually his very character – compassion and comfort.
