‘I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”’ Psalm 91.2
We would all love to have this sort of walk with God where we could say that God is our refuge and fortress. The truth is that we can! The author of this verse is not laying out some distant dream for the future, but is stating what is present and real right now: the Lord is our refuge and our fortress.
This means that you have immediate access to God as your refuge. Whenever you feel in need you can go to him knowing that he will not turn you away. It is simply a matter of consciously turning to God for help. It sounds so easy, but turning away from our need and formulating a conscious prayer can be something we forget to do rather more than we would like to admit!
“Father, help me!” is not just a prayer, but also a recognition that the Lord is your refuge, and you are indeed turning to him.
