‘You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.’ Psalm 90.8
The power of forgiveness is indeed awesome and it is almost unbelievable that the things we have done wrong can be totally and permanently removed from our record – but there is a catch! We have to bring our sins to God.
It is possible that we don’t take our sin as seriously as God does. We try to hide it away, pretend things never happened or take the view that other people’s failings are worse than our own. Yet God’s desire is that we bring our sin to him. If we have made a conscious decision to do this, the power of his forgiveness flows and our sin is removed from us. However, if it remains hidden we might pretend that it doesn’t exist – but God sees it clearly. Maybe he doesn’t judge sin by its seriousness, but according to whether or not it has been brought into the light of his presence.
Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to help you bring what is hidden to God. Ask him to show you what you are hiding and ask for the grace to bring it into the wonder of God’s glorious light.
